Basic hardware store fillers and spackling compounds are fine for small cosmetic fixes, but they fail on real rot:

• Poor bonding and shrinkage, creating gaps for moisture

• Not truly waterproof—especially in our wet climate

• No structural strength restoration

• Short lifespan (1–3 years)

• Poor paint and stain compatibility
